How I Can Help
StreetSkills is an initiative of the Safety House Association of Victoria. For more than 30 years Safety House Victoria has helped keep Victorians safe through our network of safety houses. Today, our 8,000 safety houses; identified by their iconic yellow triangles, are places children and senior Victorians can turn to when they feel unsafe or need urgent assistance. You can help continue this good work in several ways.
Organise a StreetSkills Workshop
Safety House Victoria can deliver the StreetSkills workshop at your school, sporting club or group. We encourage parents to attend so that the messages we deliver can be reinforced at home. The workshop tackles:
- identifying potential dangers from strangers to traffic;
- keeping yourself safe;
- how secondary school is different to primary school in terms of safety;
- staying safe on public transport and the journey between home and school;
- bullying
- cyber bullying
- web safety
Please call us to organise a workshop on 03 9775 0099 or email info@streetskills.org.au
Sponsor a StreetSkills Workshop
Businesses or community groups can sponsor workshops. For just a few hundred dollars we can run workshops for parents and children in your community. We will promote the business’ or group’s support in all communications and on our website and proper acknowledgment will be given in all publicity.
To explore mutually beneficial opportunities please call Alice Dawkins on 03 9775 0099 or email info@streetskills.org.au
Help Spread the Word
Start a conversation about personal safety with parents, children, teachers, community leaders, friends and family. You’ll help raise awareness of the issues facing pre-teens (and others) in our community and bring concerns to the forefront where they can be dealt with.
The more people talking about the issues and the greater the awareness of the StreetSkills program the more we can help create a safer community and empower children to navigate life.
